Regions & sanctions (OFAC)

Pewter follows U.S. OFAC sanctions rules. In plain terms:

Blocked everywhere (comprehensive programs): Cuba, Iran, North Korea, the Crimea region of Ukraine (including Sevastopol), and the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. Because region codes can't draw the exact legal line, the whole Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts are blocked, and a Ukrainian location without a region is blocked.

Not blocked as whole countries (selective programs): for example Russia, Belarus, China, Venezuela, Burma and Syria. For these, specific people and companies are screened by name against the official sanctions list when you register a machine, create a listing, pair a machine, or create a deal.

Fail-closed. If the location check is missing, or the policy or sanctions snapshot is out of date, the request is denied rather than allowed. Country headers sent by the caller are ignored.

Note

Location comes from IP geolocation, which is a control, not a guarantee. This page is not legal advice. The policy is versioned and reviewed against the official OFAC pages on a schedule.
